"If management was a licensed profession on a par with law or medicine, there might be fewer opportunities for corporate bad guys, argue HBS professors Rakesh Khurana and Nitin Nohria , and research associate Daniel Penrice."
This statement is drawn from a book published by MIT Press. An executive summary of the full chapter from which the statement is drawn is here.
I can't believe my eyes!!! How can you seriously believe that a professional license will improve things in the corporate arena? Either the authors never tell lawyers' jokes, never read about accounting and medical scandals or I miss something?
By the way Professor Khurana runs a blog.
What a joke! How can licensing help us from those managers who are good at passing tests but can't do squat when it comes to thinking critically or understanding the vagaries of human behavior? It's amazing that those who are in the academic world can come up with more credentials for us to get when all it would do is create yet another specialized group that knows nothing about the world is really about. Get serious. The world doesn't need more over educated people in charge, it needs people who can actually lead and inspire us to do our best while engaging the business environment with common sense. How many more initials do we need after our name before they become meaningless? In my experience both as a professional and teacher, give me a street taught insightful person over a dozen MBAs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
